You found a great clip on Reddit, saved it, and it plays in total silence. You didn't do anything wrong. Reddit stores every video in a way that makes this happen with most simple save methods.
Here is why, and how to get the video with its sound in one file.
Why Reddit videos save without sound
When you upload a video to Reddit, it is split into two files: one with the picture and no sound, and one with only the sound. Reddit's player fetches both and plays them side by side, so on Reddit everything looks normal.
Right click and Save video as, or most quick download tools, grab only the picture file. That is the silent video you ended up with.
A proper downloader fetches both files and joins them. PasteAndSave does that on its server, so what arrives on your device is one MP4 with picture and sound together. You don't have to do anything extra.
How to download a Reddit video
- Open the post on Reddit.
- Tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, you can also copy the address from the address bar.
- Go to the Reddit downloader and paste the link.
- Press Download and pick a quality.
The joining step adds a few seconds before the download starts. That pause is the server putting the sound back.
Which link to use
A Reddit post link usually contains /comments/ followed by a short code and the post title. Short links from the app's Share button work too. If one ever fails, open it in your browser, let the post load, and copy the full address from the address bar.
On iPhone and Android
The steps are the same in the Reddit app: Share, then Copy link, then paste it into the downloader in Safari or Chrome.
- iPhone: the video goes to Files, then Downloads. Open it, tap share and choose Save Video to put it in Photos.
- Android: it lands in the Download folder, and your gallery app shows it a few seconds later.
The iPhone and Android guide covers where files go in more detail.
GIFs and videos from other sites
Not every video on Reddit lives on Reddit:
- Reddit GIFs are stored as short MP4 videos, so they download as MP4s that loop in most players.
- Posts that link to YouTube, Streamable or another site only point to the video. Paste the link of the original site instead, and the downloader reads it from there.
- Image posts and galleries have no video in them, so there is nothing for a video downloader to save.
Quality and size
Reddit keeps videos in several sizes, usually topping out at 720p or 1080p, depending on what was uploaded. Pick the top one for a computer screen and 480p or 720p to save space on a phone. Reddit clips are short, so even 1080p is rarely more than a few dozen MB.
Posts that won't download
- NSFW posts. Reddit only shows these to logged in users, and PasteAndSave never logs in.
- Private and banned subreddits. Only members can see what is inside.
- Removed posts. The video is gone even if the post page still opens.
- Posts with no sound button on Reddit. These download fine, but silent, because they were uploaded muted.
For every message the downloader can show, see Why a Video Won't Download.
Credit the original poster
Reddit clips get reposted endlessly, and the person who filmed it rarely gets credit. If you share a saved clip, link back to the post or name the uploader, and ask before using it anywhere public. The legal lesson explains the rules in plain words.
Paste a Reddit link into the Reddit downloader to get the video with its sound.

Questions people ask
Why do Reddit videos download without sound?+
Reddit stores the picture and the sound of a video as two separate files, and its player plays them together. Saving the video file on its own, with a right click or a screen grab tool, gets you the silent picture only.
What if the downloaded Reddit video is still silent?+
Then the video most likely had no sound to begin with. Some clips are uploaded muted, and Reddit shows no sound button on those. Play the post on Reddit and check whether the speaker icon is there before trying again.
Can I download videos from NSFW subreddits?+
Not here. Reddit only shows posts marked NSFW to people who are logged in, and PasteAndSave never logs in to Reddit, so those posts can't be reached.
Can I download a Reddit GIF?+
Yes. GIFs uploaded to Reddit are stored as short MP4 videos, so they download as MP4 files that loop in most players. If the post links to a GIF on another site, paste the link of that site instead.
